CC3D An adventure in wonderland

As I mentioned in my blog, this is all a bit new to me!  I'm used to being spoilt by my long association with DJI products, easy setup, nice proprietary plug & play connections for the peripherals, etc etc.  However, on first glance, the CC3D (which has been around since 2012 in it's current guise) has a lot to recommend it.  It's a 32bit flight control board, with onboard mems gyro & accelerometer, all in a form factor of 36x36mm.  It has all the connections you're going to need, for adding stuff like GPS, and the OPlink RF module telemetry/radio control system, which if set up correctly, could certainly match all the functions of DJI's FC's, such as the Naza or WKM, and what's more, the GCS (Ground Control Software) comes in a Mac friendly format as well.

However, for my purposes, I'm liking the prospect of a reliable, lightweight, compact FC simply for reliable but basic flight control operations.

I'm not certain of the frame that it will grace at the moment, but likely it will be a homebrewed 250 size (being all the rage) as it may allow me some fpv lying a little closer to home.

I have an embryonic idea of it's design, but it will be called the 'Wasp'!

I have a penchant for getting my priorities right!

Watch this space...

Well here it is, on the right, the CC3D, all the way from China.  Problem is, it don't work!

I followed the procedure documented on the Open Pilot website, connected the board, then nothing.  I've tried with OSX & WIn 7 on two separate computers, endless USB cables and reboot's etc, no joy.

THis is what I get in windows, in the screen grab below:

It's a nuisance, but I guess for £26 delivered, I probably had it coming.  I'm pretty sure it's a faulty USB chip onboard, or bad soldering etc, but I don't have the facility to check, so will have to push for a return or refund.

It's not the end of the world, as there is anoption for the Naze 32 Acro board to take it's place, and they are tried and tested from makeitbuildit.co.uk.  Except they are perpetually out of stock as the things are so popular.

Update:

Since creating this blog, I have decided to merge the CC3D in with the Wasp 250 project, as it has more relvance, and stops me duplicating stuff (as I'm inherently lazy as well)
